This question is on point!

And...yes. Poker takes valuable time. If you do it only recreationally, just take a look how much an MTT takes from you away. It's very hard to understand from the outside what takes that long in it.
But to have a proper chance for something rewardable in it, it's long hours.
On my side I'm not lying but rather not saying in advance how will I spend my free time when noone is around, and nothing else to do. In fact, once I'm done with it, I can easily tell the truth, but in advance I might not everytime.

Yes, I lied to be able to play. I lied to my family, friends, acquaintances, work colleagues. I can't say that I'm too worried about it. Lying on my part in those moments was the easiest solution that allowed me to achieve my goal, that is, to spend time playing poker.
It was a long time ago, more than 10 years ago, but it was a lie. Now I understand that it was wrong and if there was such a situation now, I would just tell the truth.

Never had to lie about Poker, or anything for that matter, I once stayed in a Hotel for 2 nights just to play in 2 separate Poker Tournaments. The Saturday night game was an Invitational game with no Rake to pay as I had won a seat in the National Finals which was played the very next day on the Sunday.
Unfortunately I was the bubbly boy on the Saturday and made the last 5 tables in the National Event, which had over 40 tables at the start of the game, I don't kick myself over it as I had a really good weekend playing pretty well, just not good enough to make the Money.

I was also invited to visit Amsterdam on a 3 night bender (stag party) and at first wasn't too eager to go as I knew all the lads would do is get high on Weed and visit the red light district, My Wife actually convinced me to go if only to watch the Lads and make sure they didn't get into trouble.
We were only there one hour when one of the lads did too much weed and flaked out on the sidewalk, and for the next two nights we just ambled around the Red light District doing a bit of Window Shopping (looking but not buying)
On the 3rd night I had had enough and just stayed at the Hotel bar all night while the lads did another Tour of the Red Light District. No one was going to get up to any mischief, I suppose they were too worried about their Wives and Girlfriends finding out.

Nope <3 I have never been put into a position of having to hide my poker. I come from a family of card players/gamblers. I am even Canadian because of a poker game

BUT I have had to hide other things before.

Solo estuvimos allí una hora cuando uno de los muchachos fumó demasiada marihuana y se quedó dormido en la acera, y durante las siguientes dos noches simplemente paseamos por el Barrio Rojo haciendo un poco de compras de escaparates (mirando pero no comprando).
La tercera noche ya me harté y me quedé en el bar del hotel toda la noche mientras los muchachos hacían otro tour por el Barrio Rojo. Nadie iba a hacer travesuras, supongo que estaban demasiado preocupados por si sus esposas y novias se enteraban.

Y... sí. El póquer requiere un tiempo valioso. Si lo haces solo por diversión, basta con echar un vistazo a cuánto te quita un MTT. Es muy difícil entender desde fuera por qué se necesita tanto tiempo.
Pero para tener una oportunidad real de obtener algo gratificante, se necesitan muchas horas.
Por mi parte, no miento, sino que prefiero no decir de antemano cómo voy a pasar mi tiempo libre cuando no haya nadie cerca y no tenga nada más que hacer. De hecho, una vez que haya terminado con eso, puedo decir la verdad fácilmente, pero tal vez no siempre lo haga de antemano.

It's true, a lot of people don't understand it. It seems like a waste of time to spend 4 or 5 hours playing a poker tournament, they may even think that we have some kind of addiction. But that's not the case. That's why sometimes it's better not to be honest all the time.

Now that my family knows what hobby I have, I don't have any problems from them, I focus on how much the entrance costs and what the prizes are, how long it lasts and where I'm staying👍

No, I wasn't lying. I'm used to being straightforward and telling it like it is. If I want to play, I just tell my friends or family that I'm going to play poker, no lies and no hesitation

I do not need to lie about playing poker. Last year I was televized in the local "Who Wants to be a Millionaire" at one of our national TV channels, and the TV Host introduced me as a "Passionate Poker Player"

I don't think it's necessary to lie to play poker, this game offers a substantial adrenaline rush, I don't think lying would have anything to do with playing poker.

A few years ago, my friend had a party and of course he invited me. But that day there were some really cool tournaments that I didn't want to miss, and on the other hand, I realized that if I told my friend that I was going to play poker, he wouldn't understand and would be offended by me, so I said that I was sick and felt really bad, so I wouldn't come to his party. I really regret doing that, because I should have told him the truth right away, but I told him only when six months or so had passed, he said that everything was fine and not to worry about it, just tell me the truth next time and not a lie, he told me so. You can't even imagine the shame I felt at that moment and still feel when I think about this stupid situation
