No. I've never had suicidal thoughts and certainly not for a game like poker. Losing is never fun, but I figure if Negreanu can survive this unlucky 200/400 Heads-up game without committing suicide, then I can survive my freerolls and micros too :D

For context, Negreanu originally released this "analysis" in his channel from his Heads-up match with Doug Polk. I know this is a compilation with many coolers and bad beats, but Negreanu's luck was unbelievably bad in this match. Shame because I personally consider Negreanu the stronger poker player, but variance is variance. If Negreanu can make fun of the situation with a video aimed at humor, then how can one not see this as optimistic?

I feel like this "joke" is half real with his feelings inside though. This "raging" is worse than Hellmuth, but anyway, here is the clip I mentioned.

Warning: lots of swearing, so if someone is sensitive to that sort of thing, then don't watch it.

No, but i haved them before when i was in a very hard situation, full of fear and insecurities, thanks god, will and effort, im in a so much better situation right now, and loving my life.

If poker is making you suicidal, its a real problem, i dont know why you play and your lost, or what do you think about you, your self-steem, but, i recommend to stop losing (if that is same than stop playing, then dont play until you have loses that are ok for you), find a hobbie that doesnt make you have suicidal toughs...

Im almost sure that is not only poker that makes you suicidal, its maybe an overall hard situation, take care of your life and enjoy what you do, are a lot of ways to improve your quality of life and self-steem.

No way, for no reason. And I believe that people with a tendency to commit suicide have a serious illness and need medical treatment.

Never. That s insane. Is just a game and it is our decision what amount of money we play. Must be a very small mind there to think about dead and suicide because of losing money.

Never, I don't leave a lot of money in the account just so I never lose a lot of money with poker. But the idea is to improve the game to win more than lose.

Suicide is a surprisingly common cause of death; I've known two people who committed suicide and a third whom I didn't actually meet; he was in his forties and suffering from depression. The other two were 19 and 27. As far as I know, none of them played poker.

Thoughts like this of any kind, like suicide, need to be addressed, but this is neither easy nor always apparent to the one having these thoughts.

I do not think poker would lead to suicide in anyone not already prone to these types of self-destructive thoughts. But gambling as a whole and people who are emotionally unstable are not going to be a great combination.

If you have any thoughts at all about suicide or self-destruction, please get in touch with a hotline or something similar. (Or anything at all really, just contact someone) Please do not try to handle it yourself. The suicide hotlines are easy to find (google) and are staffed by helpful and understanding people.

And, just an aside, it may not be the best to look for help with this in a poker forum.....;)

For heaven's sake no. I'm playing cards for roundabout 40 years now and it's still a game. Never let the bankroll rule your life. Be aware and face your addictions in case you have those.

There have never been such thoughts! Poker is just a game, not the whole life with its diversity, today you have lost, tomorrow you will win, and if you commit suicide, you will no longer win, you will not lose. We must cherish life, it is priceless.

Good afternoon.Fortunately ,I ´ve never felt that way.I do really love and enjoy this game but there are many thing much more important than poker. specially my family. If a player can´t deal with poker losses,he /she should stop playing or play only freerolls.

No, but I've had quite a few homicidal ones.

If you follow "responsible gambling" guidelines then i think no one will ever face suicidal tendencies.
Bad beats don't generate suicidal thoughts. Suicidal tendencies occur when you are in debt due to continuous loss up to such an extent that your family life, your social life, your emotional life and above all a tremendous pressure from creditors makes your life miserable. And you don't have the courage to face them.
People in these situations usually had two options. Either run away from that place and go somewhere else and start a fresh life leaving behind everything. But they can't do that due to strong binding with spouse, children and other close relatives and friends. Consequently they go for suicide.
About couple of years back one such incident occurred in India. That news shattered the entire poker community. A family man, well placed and having well paid job just became too ambitious to become too rich in too short time. He started playing big tournaments with big buy-ins (most of the money borrowed from vendors at high interests). He was in debt everywhere and decided to commit suicide.
At the end i must say, if you can't afford to lose a money then don't play with that money. That is the basic principle of "responsible gambling".
In case someone already in trouble then remember creditors may be harsh on you but they can't kill you. They are bound to compromise with you and give you more time to repay.

Your answer is correct and very purposeful. Yes, life is not cheap and without value in front of poker or bankruptcy, on the contrary, we should enjoy poker and we should enjoy every minute of our life.

I hope nobody ever has. That's a serious problem for which the person needs to seek immediate help. There is professional help for it. Gambling is supposed to be fun.
