Overall up

I've deposited $65 on two sites and my total money is at $32. That's after cashing out $800. Of course this is over about 1.5 years.

Lot's of the money I've lost was sports betting or slots, that's why I try to keep off of Bodog, especially if i've had a few cocktails ;-) I make money on poker and then blow it on sports or slots.

Hi, I am down about £40. This is all due to my bad play, making stupid bets when I know I shouldn't. It is only a small amount because my wife would kill me if she knew I was playing with real money, I always say i'm only playing with play money. When I do lose I always go back to playing with play money & do really well but this is only because with play money people don't bet as they would with real money. So before I gamble with anymore real money & risk the wrath of my wife I am hopefully going to learn the art of Poker from you guys.
All the best & best of luck in winning your money back,
spikekat

Won, though both in a pathetic and good sense.

Good: Looking at ROI, I'm beating anything a bank would give me, and considering the state of the market, most investments.

Pathetic: Considering the stakes I play, I would have made more money putting in the same hours working in a convenience store.

i am at 0. All i've earned , i've earned from freerolls, and lost all of it at cash tables. I have lost all of it because of lack of experience and because i get tilted a lot. Anyway ... what i can say is that if u cannot build your bankrooll from zero to 1k, u cannot buid it from 100 dollars to 1k. POker is the same untill 5-10 cents tables where real poker starts. And what i had learned from my 6 mounth of playing experience earning like 150 dollars from freerolls and losing all of them at cash tables ... is that u have to play real tight and have patience untill u have at least a 1000 dollars bankroll and play 25-50 cents cash tables where u at least know the players play by the rulls and they do no limp with 7 2 out of position and get lucky.

I am confident that i will be a good poker player in time if i will learn to control my frustration and also i know that u can win lot of money building your bankroll from zero. I remember last mounth i got from 2 dollars won at freeroll to 40 dollars at cash tables playing 3 weeks. And lost all of them in one day . Is like God took my mind for 2 hours:)

PS. I saw what the guy before me wrote. Is not like that. U can win lots of money from poker. Even i can see that. But u can win if u respect the rulls . The rulls are : patience, patience , study and experience. All of these come in time. I am not the same player i was 1 week ago, one mounth ago. Every day i see poker different and every day i learn that controling myself to not become greedy and respecting the rulls of poker make me a better player.

Ah, but it is like that. :) I'm not saying you can't make money at it. Even a lot of money. I -am- saying that statistically, most of us will not. Most players lose. Some win. Poker is infinitely better than the lottery, though. You have a decent shot (20%? 33%? I've heard a lot of numbers) of being a winning player. You're dead on, though, that it takes discipline. But I'm not talking theory, I'm talking personal experience. I earn less than minimum wage playing microstakes. I do it because I like the challenge, and I have fun doing it.

You also make in interesting point about going from 0 to 1000. Just for full disclosure, I went from $0-$300 on Bodog, and $50 to $400 on FT so far. Seriously, if you're in it for the money, get your credit card out and deposit. I figure if you're good enough to crush the games at 10BB/100 hands (which I'm not), you're looking at 50,000 hands from $40 (fully rolled for 2nl) to $1000. 100,000 if you only win at 5. I'll be honest--I don't win at 5BB/100 consistently. Getting from $0 to $40 is left as an exercise for the reader. I cashed in 2 tourneys on Bodog. $7, which I was slowly building up in $2 SnGs, then I placed 7th out of 4,000 or so for another $25. I tried the same on FT. Won a little cash in a freeroll, but lost it. I think you can spend a long time trying to go from $0 to $40.

It takes a long time to play 50,000 or 100,000 hands. If you can win, don't waste hours building a BR, just deposit if you have the money to spare. If you don't, then sure, put in the time, but it would be more sensible to just go get a job for a week, then deposit.

Doown a good amount. Keep running into river flushes and higher pairs on the river. Need to do better with determining odds.
