If you play with friends for fun = use anything you like.

Affects for much worse. It makes me tired, sleepy, impatient and makes me make bad decisions, and not just poker. Alcohol and reasoning don't mix.

Alcohol helps me to relax and not think about the bad bits. And then not think about anything at all. It's hard to win when you're drunk. Alcohol and cards are not compatible. Alcohol can only be combined with sex and pleasure. But not as with the consciousness, attention and concentration that the game of poker requires, like other logical calculating games.

Is it a good or bad mix?

I have met all kinds over the years while playing poker, alcohol seems to be a popular drink in my local casinos (Scotland) while at the table.

Is a few drinks fine? To maybe calm the nerves? Is there a limit you go to, before you say that's enough? Is it more for social reasons or can alcohol, actually, bring you out of your shell and make you play a more aggressive game?

What are the pro's and con's?

I don't think poker and alcohol are compatible. Drinking alcohol during the game you lose concentration and patience, so most likely you will make mistakes and as a result you will receive financial losses and disappointments.
