Poker is only taken seriously because it involves money and even then there are a lot of horrible players who do crazy things at the table, if it didn't involve money it would be a boring game that these players would play anyway

To learn yes. After a certain time the answer would be a clear no.

In general no.

I think so, even if poker wasn't about money, it would still be a great game and many people would play it, including me.

I believe that poker = money and without the winning factor it completely loses its specialness, its luster, its “wow”.

Of course, the only measure for all of us in poker is money. I'll be honest, I wouldn't play poker at all if I didn't have the opportunity to win money. Yes, it's a nice socializing experience if we're talking about the CardsChat tournament format on Replay, for example. But globally, poker would lose its sense if there was no money.

For me, yes, poker, both for money and without money, is a game that will surely arouse my interest every time, due to the fact that it always gives you a dose of adrenaline.

I Live Poker said:
The game is the most interesting I've played to date, however I've been trying to imagine what it would be like if there was no money involved in its nature, but I say that as if it was created without the money involved, as if we didn't know it in this format with cash prizes. would it be so interesting? I think that money is a component of poker, and without it a lot of factors would change, and it would lose some of its meaning.
Yes, I would play poker if money was involved and I do.

Just started playing on ReplayPoker this week and enjoying myself.

I've been playing play money poker over on PokerStars for two decades now and still enjoy myself there.

Although ReplayPoker will probably become my first choice from now on. More of an international player population than PokerStars which is domanated by players from north and south America. These players tend to be most active when Europe is sleeping.

For me, I think that poker is not just about money. I play and have fun because I find poker a hobby in which I feel comfortable.
Poker can be considered like chess.
Not all chess players play for money.

I started playing in tournament bar poker. No money was involved, although there was compensation for the winner and top placements. Usually bar credit. I had a lot of fun cutting my teeth on bar poker, learning, and enjoyed the social aspect of it.

I also enjoy playing poker with my significant other, showing her how to play and different strategies. So, yes, I still enjoy poker even if no money is involved, but that's only if it's tournament poker. Cash games are all about what it says... cash.

No, because without the money, the achievements would be worth more, and it is the vast majority of the tournaments we play that we do, in other words, poker is only worth it because of the ROI itself.

It is obviously not as fun or exciting without money, BUT: if you want to play anything other than NLH or PLO Cash Games or SnGs Online you don't have many other options than Play Money.

As long as you find a game where the players take it at least semi-seriously it can be entertaining or a way to relax just like other social games.

All the post here (that I've read) are missing the point. Playing poker without money people don't care about losing. They play any two cards go for every draw, you end up playing bingo and the luckiest player wins. making them pay money makes them care about if they think the cards will win.

I understand what you are saying, but when you start to get into the higher play money buy-in games it starts to cost money to stay there if you don't take losing your chips seriously. Play money sites sell play money to the players.

How many people can consistently throw 100K to 1Mil chips into a game, lose, and continue to play. Only those who can afford to take play money seriously.

So the solution to getting a good play money game is to consistently move up the buy-in levels until you can play the pseudo-real game games.

Money is how we keep score in poker. But yes, I would still find the game fascinating all the same.
