I put some serious consideration into giving up in Jan after my first ever 20buyin downswing, but as long as I feel in control and able to beat the game I will continue playing.

Or if I stopped enjoying it.

At what point would you guys consider giving up? Discuss, This is a serious question!

- if i went busto. because it would demonstrate a lack of skill/discipline and i don't want to lose money at this game.

- if i went on a long losing streak AND i could not see things in my game that need fixing. The definition of "long" is of course arbitrary. I have never had a loosing month so far, so i guess a couple of months in the red would make me think hard.

- if i stopped enjoying the game.

although i can't really foresee any of these in a reasonable future.

I think it's nice that you're finding your style and it turns out to be a winning one. There are many different ways to beat this game, tbh. And if yours allows you to exploit the fishes and confuse the regs, it's probably one of them.

He's good, I sit with him a lot. We were at a table a couple of days ago that broke up and left just the two of us, we both start tables so clearly had the same idea in mind. Some fun heads up ensued and I won maybe 20% of a stack and he said "I give up " and left.

Made me happy to not be considered an entirely exploitable fish.

He's not just good. He's arguably the best 100nl FR reg at PS at the moment. At least in BB/100, maybe not in $/hour as he does not play that many tables (8 or 9 i think).

What's really weird is that he does not move up.

I know your struggling Jay with running bad, but from what i saw when i was at your table you can definately do some stuff to fix your game. Such as when a tag reg raises to 4x from mp2 and everyone else folds, im sure its not profitable for you to call with t,8s in the bb

I was on a deep tabling, took down a $78 pot vs 2 people with a boat vs top trips so I was sitting on $100.

Guy raised to my right and I was concentrating on another table so I just snapped with 66 set mining what I thought was a $1 bet. Well it wasn't. He bet $50 preflop. I snapped, guy to my left snapped for $50 too and then a shortie called. Flop was like A82 guy to my left shoves last $20 into what was already a $160 ish pot. Guy to my right, the OR, says: "OMG I missclicked. Meant to bet 0.50" and folded.

I was so super pissed that I folded too. Didn't even register the magnificent pot odds and should've probably seen the guys stats as he was a fking maniac cause he shoved the flop with Q8os, Q high. The shortie took down main pot with AQ and the maniac took down the $100+ side pot with Q high...

FML. What a way to get the first losing session on Everest :\

Nah he said flop was "like" A82 so probably he just means dry board with no 6 and probably no 8 if AQ high took down the small pot against him.

Oh but cut down on tables. If you're folding boats, calling $50 preflop with 66 then folding getting 9234582935235 to 1 postflop you're not giving yourself nearly enough time to concentrate on each decision.

I agree. The folding boat was back on tilt near the end of last month when I decided to 12 table for once. It didnt went well. And I went back to 9 tabling like I was doing the rest of the month and this month as well.

Everest software just times out sometimes as their popup table system doesn't work very well.

But I had started another table and was concentrating on HU there. That's a bad idea. I'll probably stop from playing HU on one table while playing on 8 other full ones from now on .

And yes WV that wasn't the exact flop. It was this: 4c 7d Ah.
So Q8 took down side pot, and AQ took down main pot.

OK... break has ended up being longer than I thought but I plan to hit the tables tonight for essentially my first real session of the month.

Decided I'm not going to care at all about hand volume/vip levels or anything else and am just going to try to make the best decisions I can make this month. My goal is to get up to $100 as quickly as possible and stay there this time before I start even thinking about those things again.

I'm about to have a couple weeks off of work too so that will help tremendously.

anyway... hold me to it you guys if I start doing supid stuff to hold onto platinum or something in a couple weeks!

So I guess it's all good. It's just profits lost and somehow it feels better than if I was breakeven for the session and then losing 200BB
Still feel retarded especially for folding on that flop. Oh well, we live and we learn not to snap set mine I guess !

I'm getting close, and if I move some $$ over from tilt I already am, rolled for 50nl. So I think I'm going to take a shot this week.
I'll see how it goes. Probably put in a 25/20 move up/move down limit..

That reminds me of a hilarious thread on 2+2 where this guy would make huge one chip raises to get ppl to call by mistake. So he'd do things like raise to $50 at nl50 but it would just look like he was limping if you weren't paying attention. Chat was hilarious, as guys would be like "wtf where did all my money go".

Raised what looked like a min raise but was really a shove (50 instead of .50) ever time he had AAxx type hands, funny thing is some people folded to a 1$ bet or something on the flop

-When it no longer becomes profitable over a long stretch. This will vary greatly for different people depending on situation/what you want out of poker. So for me, if i was unable, for whatever reason, to make much over $100/hr after playing seriously for several months during my "time off", i'd just go back to school (probably still play part time) because for me that wouldn't be enough incentive to delay schooling any further (i make a little over this much now, so the difference between playing full time and playing part time while in school would not be worth it at all). But if i was to make say $300/hr+ then i'd seriously consider taking another year or more off to save money, since the benefits of being set up with a mortgage free house would far outweigh (imo) the benefits of being done school 1 or 2 years earlier. If you make $40/hr at your job and only $15/hr at poker, then it may not be worth it unless:
-Enjoyment. If you continue to enjoy playing poker then there isn't much point to quitting even if you are breaking even. But if you don't enjoy the game and aren't seeing enough profit to outweigh this lack of enjoyment, then there isn't much point in playing.

So all you have to apply is a pretty simple cost-benefit analysis IMO to see if playing poker is still worth it for you.

I hate not playing for a few days and then having a session it just doesnt feel "right" at the tables and I spew abit until im settled. Maybe I wont play until the 14th, then I have alot easier exams but this first one is a bitch!

I think I can make platty this month, played 10k already but that gives me 17 days to play 40k, I shall see how it goes me thinks.

Oh yeah I know I have big leaks m8, and playing oop is definitely not good for me. I'm certainly not blaming this running bad all on err just running bad! I do play a lot of crap oop, and it's something i was used to playing 600k hands last year. For some reason it sort of worked then, but that style doesn't seem to be working now. In fact not a lot does, so I'm seeking help in trying to sort stuff out atm!

1) If it stopped being fun,

2) If it started affecting my personal/family life in any substantial negative way. Like taking too much time away, letting swings affect my moods outside of poker too much.

Money doesn't matter too much in that it's always just been a self-funding hobby so other than the original deposit and recent redeposit (which I plan to take out whenever the Cnd $ stops going up) I haven't put $ into it.

So yeah as long as i enjoy it and im either profitable or break even i will keep playing.
