The largest single payout in poker history was won by Antonio Esfandiari.
He won $18.3 million at the 2012 WSOP Big One for One Drop tournament in Las Vegas.
The event had a massive $1 million buy-in, which is why the prize pool was so huge.
It remains the biggest first-place prize ever awarded in a poker tournament.
Several players have earned more overall in their careers, but this is the biggest single win.

I'm mostly a cash game player, My highest win so far in MTT is around $600+ ...

My biggest win was a £1k package £500 cash and a £500 live event ticket, which I have won twice.

Technically Bryn Kenney had the highest payout but it didn't count because of a deal :)
Kenney technically finished in 2nd place. However, because of a heads-up deal made before the final showdown with Aaron Zang, Kenney took home more money than the actual winner.
Zang walked away with $16.7 million.

If you only count 1st-place finishes without deals, the record belongs to Antonio Esfandiari.
This held the record for the largest single payout for seven years until the Triton Million in 2019.

The largest individual payout ever awarded in a poker tournament belongs to Bryn Kenney.
  • Amount: $20,563,324 (£16,890,509)

  • Event: 2019 Triton Million for Charity (£1,050,000 buy-in).
In cash games Tom Dwan is still the king with the highest pot in televised poker. 31M$
Off camera even way more

As others mentioned the largest was of Antonio Esfandiari for 18.35m.

My largest came in only my 2nd live event when our casino in Halifax first opened. I won't just over 5k for 1st place in a $300 buy-in MTT. My next best was just over $1500 which a scored few times on Pokerstars. Also have had a couple $800 scores on Ultimate Bet. Not bad for the rather short time I got too play there thanks to the douchebag Russ Hamilton who ruined it for everyone. Always liked UB's software a bit more then Pokerstars. It was nice, simple, easy to navigate/user friendly, not cluttered, clean and ran very good.

Cheers!!!

Personally, I won a spin on 888 for a $109 ticket. Not many people entered, so I managed to take it down. That was a pretty sweet payday.

All time, there have to be some crazy high-stakes games out there, Epstein Island level, in private tables.

If you're talking about the biggest single tournament score ever, it’s:
👉 Antonio Esfandiari – $18,346,673
He won it in the 2012 wsop Big One for One Drop, which still holds the record.
If instead you mean the biggest overall winner in poker history (live tournaments):
👉 Bryn Kenney – $70M+ in total live earnings
He leads the all-time money list, mostly thanks to high rollers and Triton events.
Worth noting:
  • 💰 Kenney actually had a $20.5M cash in a Triton event (2019), the biggest payout ever, but he finished 2nd due to a deal.
  • 🏆 Justin Bonomo is also up there with $60M+ in total earnings.
Quick summary:
  • Biggest single win: Esfandiari – $18.3M
  • Biggest career earnings: Bryn Kenney – $70M+

Largest prize in a single tournament (official, live)
The absolute record is held by American player Bryn Kenney, who won:
$20,563,324
In 2019
Event: Triton Million for Charity
Although he finished second, a deal at the final table gave him the largest payout in tournament history.
This is the biggest individual prize ever recorded in live poker.

That’s correct — Antonio Esfandiari earned a record $18.35 million in the 2012 “Big One for One Drop” event. It remains the largest prize ever awarded in a live tournament.

My biggest poker prize – $800 in 2021

Good morning everyone.

In 2021, I played a $50 tournament on 888 Poker and won $800, finishing in 96th place in a tournament with more than 10,000 players.

I won the $50 ticket in a giveaway held by professional player and 888 Poker ambassador in Brazil, Vivi Saliba, during a live stream. Normally, I only played freerolls or $1 to $2 tournaments at most. So when I won the ticket, I thought: “If I play a $50 tournament, I won’t last long. The level must be very high.”

My expectation was simply to reach Day 2, even if it was with very few chips — maybe one blind or less — just to advance. I truly had no expectation of making the money.

On Day 1, in the very first hand, I was dealt 10-9 suited. I opened with a raise and the flop came 8-7-6. I hit the high straight. I bet, the villain check-raised and went all-in. He had the lower straight. Result: I doubled up in the first hand.

After that, the game flowed very well. I hit sets, strong hands like AA and KK, and kept building my stack. At the end of Day 1, I finished second overall among all the players registered in that flight. Something I totally did not expect.

On Day 2, when I looked at the payout structure, I saw that the minimum prize was $100. I started playing more cautiously to at least secure a cash. I avoided unnecessary big confrontations.

In one hand, for example, I had KK. A player opened with 99 and I just called in position instead of three-betting. The flop came with a 9 and two low cards. He checked, I checked back. On the turn, check-check again. On the river, he bet and I called — he had a set. If I had played more aggressively preflop, I could have lost many more chips or even been eliminated earlier. This more cautious approach helped me last longer in the tournament.

In the end, I finished in 96th place and won $800. For someone used to playing $1 tournaments, winning $800 in a single event was, by far, the biggest prize of my life.

If I had finished in first place, the prize would have been $60,000.

My 100x Spin & Go

Another remarkable experience was in a Spin & Go on 888 Poker. Only once did I hit a 100x multiplier in a $1 buy-in tournament.

The prize distribution was:

1st place: $70 2nd place: $20 3rd place: $10

And I finished in first place, winning $70.

The most interesting part is that, that day, I only wanted to win $5 to add to the $5 I already had in my bankroll so I could make a withdrawal. I wasn’t thinking about anything big — I just wanted to reach $10 to cash out.

In the end, I won the $70 from the Spin & Go and, adding the $5 I already had, I ended up with $75.

I have always noticed something in poker: when my expectation is just to win a little, I end up making money. When I play without pressure and without thinking too big, things flow better.
That’s interesting to know. These record‑breaking prize amounts really show how big some competitive events can get. It’s always surprising to see how high the payouts can climb in major live tournaments.

That’s an impressive figure. The Triton Million event really set a new benchmark for how high payouts in major live competitions can go. Even finishing second and still earning the largest prize ever recorded shows just how unique that tournament was.

I don't remember well, but I think I won $250 in a tournament, but then I lost everything to play bigger tournaments.
That's one of the biggest mistake that poker players do, including myself. We jump to high stakes and big buy-ins too quickly

What is the largest amount of money ever won in poker?

Since I only play freerolls, my biggest prize was $78.00 in a Cardschat freeroll on Pokerstars, back in the good old days when we had $300.00 freerolls on weekends. I miss those times.:(
