This is the type of poker that moves between two extremes.
Some love it for its deep strategy, while others hate it for its high variance and frequent split pots.
Because of the four cards dealt, almost every flop contains some kind of project.
The goal is always to take the entire pot. If you only play Lo, your share will often be halved.
Many people play middle cards (e.g. 7-8-9-10), which is a disaster in PLO8. Ideally, you should have A-A-2-x or A-2-3-x.

I've only played a little PLO8, so I would find it difficult to compare the two games for comlexity. My perception is they are both very tricky but I have a dislike of splitting pots for some reason. So prefer pot limit omaha.

I would need maybe to do well in a CC freeroll in PLO8 to trigger further interest.

I think it, actually, is easier than the tradicional Pot Limit Omaha...

Once you understand the rule of the pot split, you will be more safe than you would on the tradicional one.

The Hi-Lo rules allows weaker/calling stations players to just pay to see the showdown and split an entire pot with the true winner just because they got a better "sequence" of low cards, which may seem unfair sometimes, but makes the game funnier in my own oppinion.

This, obviously, makes us change our strategies and forces us to be more aware of not trying to play just for the main pot, but not makes the game itself harder.

So this is why I think the PLO8 variant is easier than the common PLO.

Yes, I think that PLO8 is more skill-based than Omaha. I'm playing it sometimes. Both Omaha and PLO8 are for me patience skilled games because you need to make decisions when to join the pot and when to just let it go. I love Omaha more than PLO8 because I was many times drawn into pot just chasing the low.

No interest in any game that involves splitting the pot. Holdem, 5 card draw or 7 card stud for me when it comes to poker.

Cheers!!!

I don't like PLO8, there are players who are too crazy, if I ever play it it's a freeroll or because I have a ticket, I always prefer Texas Holdem, I think there's more strategy. 😌

If you play on PokerStars they have both SnG and Cash PLO8 (PLO hi/lo) games
Yes I do play on PokerStars. But I only play the play money games because I can't get my casino part to work and since I have been installing and re-installing PokerStars for over 15 years now. I give up trying to make it work properly.

But to come back to PLO8. I play on Replay Poker freerolls daily. But it's NL. I also play the small stakes games. I play the 7cards Stud H/L also.

It's a fantastic game of poker , whether ring cash games, MTTs or SNGs .Since many omaholics just love to gamble , a few simple principles and disciplined play will make you better than most .Much easier to learn than NLHE or PLO .

Omaha High low is a tricky game. You may get great High cards, but the turn cards might be low and then you might get great low cards and then the cards might be high or you might get a combination of both and that would be a great hand to start off with because your chances of winning with high or low or both has better odds. You have to think more in this game than you do in Holdem. I personally love the game.

I think PLO8 is probably more skill-intensive than regular PLO because you're not only evaluating high-hand equity but also constantly thinking about the low side of the pot, freerolls, and scoop potential. That adds another layer of complexity and creates many spots where small mistakes become expensive. I don't play it regularly, but I find it interesting and would like to learn it someday. For now, I prefer focusing on NLHE, since mastering one format first seems more valuable than spreading my study across too many different games.

It must definitely be totally crazy playing so many cards in your hand and one of drinking a lot of ghosts when the community girls come out

Omaha is considered to be a harder game to master than Texas Hold'em, mainly because of the two extra hole cards everyone gets. Then PLO8 (Pot Limit Omaha Hi-Lo) takes that premise and offers a possibility of splitting a pot with an opponent. Do you think PLO8 is more skill-based than regular Omaha? Is it a game you play? One you are interested in learning? Why or why not? Is it a harder game to master?
I'm interested in playing PLO8, but I wouldn't want to play it for real money. A freeroll? Sure. I actually think it's more interesting than Hold'em, but my skill level in PLO8 is probably not as good.

Traditional omaha requires a lot of skill, I rarely play it, as for plo8, I haven't played it yet.

I think PLO8 is a very underrated poker variant. It takes more patience and discipline than many people expect because you’re often playing for only half the pot. Hand selection and understanding nut potential are extremely important, and chasing second-best hands can become very expensive. I also like that it rewards players who pay attention to scoop opportunities rather than just making a strong high hand. It’s not as popular as NLHE or regular PLO, but it’s a fun game with plenty of strategy, especially against opponents who don’t understand the split-pot dynamics.

Most of my experience is with Texas Hold'em, so I'm still new to PLO8. From what I've seen, choosing the right starting hands is very important. I'm interested to hear what experienced PLO8 players enjoy about it.

I enjoy learning the mixed games and really like PLO8. I like that you can split the pot but it is tough when you only get 1/4 of the pot. The nuts can change qucickly but it is definitely fun!

I definitely think PLO8 has a higher skill ceiling than regular PLO.
The biggest trap for novice players is playing to win half the pot, whereas experienced players are always constructing hands to scoop the entire pot. Factoring in low-hand qualifications, equity splits, and avoiding getting quartered adds a huge extra layer of complexity. It is definitely harder to master, but that also means the edge over weaker opponents is much bigger!

In my opinion, the only poker game that allows—and sometimes demands—blind, almost insane aggression is Texas Hold'em; any other variation requires more caution, and as more cards are added, the variables multiply further.
I like Hold'em—its speed and its thirst for destruction—whereas the other variations demand a level of patience that isn't in my nature.

I like the format, but it’s a very long tournament and most of the pots are split; other than that, I love playing PLO8.

I think PLO8 is harder than Hold'em, with more cards, more combinations your opponent can make, and more chances to lose. PLO8 needs its own clear strategy and iron nerves.

Omaha is a lunatic's game. Hi Lo is a different kettle of fish and contains a modicum of skill.
