Hi pokerfriends,

i started to play omaha only 3 years ago, so i have to say im better in the casual PLO and this is also a format which can be tricky but PLO8 is a bit higher in skill level i think because it is much harder to build up a big stack in a tournament, i would never try PLO8 cash game because your skills must be very good and you need a lot of experience to make solid earnings there i think.
Nowadays im getting better at Omaha and i dont think that i will play PLO8 in near future, i really dont like Omaha Hi/Lo ;-).

greets Balou

hands for a high straight (A-K-Q-J, K-Q-J-T).In PLO8, hands of this type are much less valuable than in regular PLO. This is because when you make the nuts or just a good hand with them, a low is usually impossible. This means you'll only be able to get active with these hands from another strong top hand, which is usually a weaker straight, a set, or a nut flush draw. If your opponent has one of these hands along with a backdoor low draw, their equity will be quite high. There aren't many flops that suit these hands; furthermore, when you get a lot of money into the pot, your equity advantage will usually be small. As a result, the equity of these hands is generally mediocre.

Omaha is considered to be a harder game to master than Texas Hold'em, mainly because of the two extra hole cards everyone gets. Then PLO8 (Pot Limit Omaha Hi-Lo) takes that premise and offers a possibility of splitting a pot with an opponent. Do you think PLO8 is more skill-based than regular Omaha? Is it a game you play? One you are interested in learning? Why or why not? Is it a harder game to master?

PLO8 is no doubt more technically complicated than regular Omaha precisely because of the two extra hole cards. Do I think PLO8 is more skill-based than regular Omaha?
What does "skill" mean? Is it strategy? Knowledge? Stats?
For me, skill in poker is just relative to luck. Relative to hole cards dealt & the community cards. Therefore, PLO8 is NOT more "skill-based" than regular Omaha.
Is it a harder game to master? Well, I don't believe I could master any.

Tho PLO8 is a game I play more than Omaha. Just because at this time, I bag more wins in PLO8 than Omaha. Perhaps somewhere in time, it may change.

My favourite game but probably basically a break even player as I am in nlhe. There is less bluffing, more patience. I think its easier, or al least plays more to my strengths. But as I only play micros, I wouldn't listen to me 😄

I enjoy PLO8. I do think it is more challenging than Holdem and that is one reason I like it. I get bored with Holdem. I don't really think PLO8 takes more skill than regular Omaha. I actually find it to be easier than regular Omaha.

It has its best way of playing it and reach, but one must adapt to the amount of variance it may have.

I like PLO8—the idea of splitting the pot between players, with one taking the high and another taking the low, or scooping the entire pot by winning both high and low. What’s worse is when you think you’re going to split the pot, only to find out you’ve been quartered. 😅

PLO8 can be really hard to master. It’s difficult to represent a hand when there’s always a possibility that one of your opponents actually has the nuts. PLO8 is one of my favorite variants, right next to Fixed-Limit Hi-Lo.

I occasionally play a regular game of Omaha, but I haven't played much PLO8; I always get confused when I play.

PLO8 is definitely a different kind of challenge. You have to think about both the high and low possibilities, which makes every hand interesting.

Hi-lo games will always be my last choice, but it's still poker and I do play it some. I'm not saying that I dislike it, I just like it less than Hi only games. It's probably easier to make money at since it seems to attract *really* bad players who want to gamble it up : folks pay off the nuts regularly.

Yes, I think PLO8 is more skill-based than regular PLO because you have to think about both the high and low halves of the pot. Hand selection, nut potential, and understanding when you're freerolling or getting quartered make the game much more complex. I don't play it regularly, but I enjoy it occasionally because it challenges my decision-making in a different way. It's definitely harder to master than regular Omaha.

I like plo8 more than simple plo , because I am not that good on plo . I like all these changes , the variance , the game , but I cannot win on it , I am not good enough like on nlh .but with plo8 things are better , I try my luck at the low besides high , I find it more entertaining, maybe somehow a little easier for me, if I fail on the high I still might hit the low . But I rarely play plo or plo8 nowadays . I used to do it a lot in the past

It's fun and challenging.. I have to remind myself only to bet and draw to the nuts, 2nd nuts never win. Also muck if the best you can do is split the pot.

I think it is very fun, but really complex to learn.
I had the chance to play it a little in Cardschat freerolls and enjoy it.
I would like to study more about the game, because I consider myself a mediocre player of PLO8.

In my opinion, OOP8 is a very interesting discipline. It's not enough just to put together a strong combination — you have to constantly think about the scoop and understand what part of the pot you're really fighting for. I especially like that one mistake in hand skills can be very expensive. Overall, the game is much deeper than meets the eye. 🔥

I haven’t really looked into PLO8 in much depth, to be honest. I already have pretty limited time for poker, so I’d rather spend it playing Hold’em, and Omaha itself hasn’t been that interesting to me lately. PLO8 definitely seems more complex and probably requires a different way of thinking, especially with the split-pot aspect, but I’m not sure I want to invest the time needed to learn it properly.

I cashed in the $2.20 last night and won a tiny bit in the 22c tournament, so overall I like it.

For me personally, this is a good type of poker that forces us to go beyond the boundaries of our usual way of thinking (as in hold’em). This type of poker doesn’t just encourage us to play a wider range of hands, as in classic PLO, but completely changes our game mechanics, allowing us to make absolutely crazy moves that are unusual for the aforementioned types of poker.
I like it.😎🍿

It is one of favorite poker games and I love to play it, probably because Im a glutton for punishment! I am always learning playing but thats a good thing! mastering how to get around the donks is a struggle because a lot of players dont know how to play this game! Card selection and position are important, bluffing is difficult but not impossible. I think its a fun game that uses my brain more. however keeping my emotions in check is an always big battle for me, lol and many can contest to that fact here in the forum and that is all I will say about thato_O:D
