To be honest when it comes to playing poker I think you should play what you enjoy the most. I do believe you can be equally as profitable and make just as much playing either tournaments or cash games. One problem with playing tournaments is the variance could be huge and you could be losing month after month after month before getting that win which would be really huge but that's the way that game goes. If you're looking to just play poker and constantly make money you know maybe each week your best option would probably be cash if you're honestly good enough to beat those games. But that's just my opinion

This best advice that I have ever heard is: Find a game that you can consistently beat and play the heck out of it. Everyone has different strengths and weaknesses. I am great in PKO tournaments and cash games because those structures allow for a lot of deep stack play and for playing aggressively. Some people (especially those more conservative) are better at SNGs because there, playing tight will often get you in ITM on a consistent basis. Some people play a TAG game that is especially good in MTTs. So, figure what your strengths are and play those games. When you find a game (or level) that you can consistenly beat -- play the heck out of it until you are ready to move up.

To quote Jonathan Little: "find a game you can beat and play it a ton". Everyone will have different answers for you, but the only answer that really counts is yours.

For a beginner, start with MTT freerolls, then move on to MTTs. You'll get the hang of it. Try playing cash tables as well, but it's a matter of preference whether you'll prefer MTTs or cash games.

It depends on your skill set, available time, and available games.

I would play sngs exclusively if I could find the volume. The ICM is easy to review, they are quicker than Mtts, and they are easiest to multi-table.

But you have to play what you like, you have to play spins, sngs, mtts, cash, and play in the mode that you like best, for example I like tournaments.
