I'm currently working on a philosophical treatise entitled, "On Poker and Time." In this treatise, I will be discussing the ease at which poker can become a vice. Remember what is important, your free will and moral good. If either of these are compromised, you have yourself a vice. Poker is no exception to this, and it is actually easily justified in the minds of millions as being necessary. The love of money and fame often blinds individual's minds from what the true good is. You guessed it...free will and moral good. :D:D:D

It will most likely take some time for me to complete my treatise, but you can rest assured I will be providing a copy on CardsChat, once it is finished.

Until then...happy playing and have fun!

In my opinion you can get addicted almost to everything you do. You just need to learn how to control it and not let it control you

Absalutely can. The deeper question is, do you control the addiction, or does the addiction control you? Anyone that plays poker regularly, and make sacrifices in thier personal life are feeding this addiction. This isn't necessarily a bad thing is you are a long term profitable player. These people have the self control to control the addiction. Its the players that are losing players, play outside of bankroll management, and get upset and frustrated when they lose are the ones that have a problem.

In your line of thought, I would urge you to contemplate whether the "winning" player is still losing something more valuable than money.

I have not yet observed any dependence on poker, I control myself, I think that players who have no other source of income are addicted.

Personally, I am disciplined and patient, so I earn income from the game. But if the player does not follow the basic rules and is not patient, then it can lead to serious losses.

Don't know how to control yourself - don't sit down to play poker. Here is the only advice.

Yes mate, you can. I almost did. If you ever find yourself playing more than you have been previously and alike more than you think is healthy, I'd recommend taking a long break from the game.

it doesn't have to be an actual physical deal, addiction is a personality trait as much as anything ... if you are pre-disposed, you can get addicted to anything ...there's always the favorites, drugs, alcohol, tobacco and gambling in general but even stuff you enjoy but wouldn't think of like food, video gaming, and even sex ...

If you can get addicted to eating dirt or washing up sponges, or addicted to rolling around in slurry or addicted to drinking water to the point where you drink so much water that you over-saturate and die, then... Yes... You can get addicted to poker.

You can get addicted to anything.

Addictions live in your subconscious mind so aren't exactly rational, haha.

Yes, I saw and played with a person who is very dependent on the game of poker, I tell him to rest from the game and he tells me that there is a lot of game and that he needs to play and not to be distracted during the game, I’ll say that he dependent on the game of poker, but sometimes he wins tournaments or some good freerolls and gets a small but profit in bankroll!

Very good point! I have a lot of successful friends within the poker industry. That have made a solid side business, or have committed to poker full time. If that is by playing, coaching, offering content for websites, creating their own websites, ect....

The common reaccuring frustration with this way of life with all of them. Is that they wish they could spend more time with their families. When I say reaccuring. I mean EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM.

So yea, sacrifices were made to help provide a better life for their families. Granted because they were so busy making that better life for them. They missed out on a lot of enjoying it.

It depends, If I play poker on emotions, I may lose control. Yesterday I went all in with A 10 in a bad position, because I was on emotions. But if everything is fine with me, then I am not dependent :)

There is only one reason why I can't get addicted to poker: I don't have enough money for it, hahahaha.
