Honestly, since I started playing poker, a lot of money I didn't win, but instead, I made a lot of friends. So: poker has its good side too :) :))

My opinion is that poker should be a hobby first and foremost. But you can also live from it, which I would like. So poker for me is just a hobby.

Yes for most of players it is waste of money. But you have many chances to play and win without deposit so train your game and beat freerols

Poker is first of all a good pastime and how much money you spend depends only on you, playing even at the smallest bets you can hit a big jackpot

It depends

I dont think our opoinion about poker must be black or white. If you spend your spare time and money, it's sure that you dont waste anything! If you chage your life because of poker and your income and expenses depend on poker, then if you dont have the knowledge and ability it is dangerous to lose your money. You have to go step by step in terms of the time and money you spend and judge this based on your performance.

it's all a matter of perspective. eating out or going to the movies can be considered a waste of money. the pleasure or pain derived from the money spent will be the judge

I've always had a rule to not put a cent of my own money into poker. I started from scratch and made a pretty decent bankroll through freerolls & free money options. I cashed it all out so currently i am in the same place as in the beginning. Still i hold the rule, i think it's more fun and it builds patience which is neccesary in poker. It's good time now cause im sitting at home due to "Corona":(:)

I used to view poker as a way to make money. Then I realized I wasn't making any money, except in extreme situations. So, I then thought about it in terms of enjoyment. I could spend $20 - $50 playing poker for a while, or I could spend that time and money going to a movie. Since I prefer poker over the movies, spending money on poker is not a waste of money. Now, if you're someone who is strictly playing poker to make money and you're losing money then you should probably invest less heavily in it.

While this might be an unpopular opinion on an online poker community, I view online poker as entertainment rather than a waste of money. Since poker and casinos usually go hand-and-hand, I put poker in the same category as other table games. While there definitely is more skill involved in poker and you're playing against other players rather than the house, if I end up losing money in a session or casino visit, you have to view it as a form of entertainment first and foremost before viewing it as a moneymaking proposition. Otherwise, you'll have more negative than positive experiences when player poker or going to a casino, which is never ideal. Lastly, of course all gambling should be done within one's limits and only with disposable income.

For most it probably is a waste of money, but it really depends how much work you put into it.

Poker is only a waste of money if the expected value of your decisions are negative.

Money is a medium for value. And it is used to exchange for other items of value.

If I give you 2 to 1 odds on a fair coin flip, and the result is you choose the wrong side and loose.

1. What is the EV of this decision? Zero, Negative or Positive?

2. Did you waste your money?

Poker is not a waste of money. The real question is are you wasting your money in poker. Why is that? Playing above your bankroll? A bad day at the table wipes you out because you are playing too high of stakes causing tilt and more bad play. Recreational players shouldn't feel it's a waste because they are playing for fun. I guess I'll never be convinced poker is a waste of money or can't fully comprehend the question. If you are using money you can't afford to lose then that's not good. Responsible gaming is Good Gaming.

Good Luck To All:cool:

It's not a waste at all. You make the decision to deposit and play poker, whether you are winning long term or not, because it is fun and it's the way you've chosen to use X amount of money. It's the same as asking is going to play pool with friends and paying $5 to use the pool table for an hour, a waste of money.

Depending what is your aim when you play poker. I think if you do it as a hobby with an limited amount over an time period (like a week/month and so on), then also when you lose it isn't a waste. U spend in other hobbies money too where u have no "cashback" instead of having fun, competition and hopefully meet up some friends.

Hello, jumaischi! I think in any case, including and Poker, first of all need to invest some money, that in the further to start win!
This is acsioma. It's logical. Without investments not happen wins!.. Therefore, that never to lose money, means simply not need to play
in Poker quite. And then all will OK! You nothing win, but and nothing to lose... That's and all! Everybody chooses your.:cool::)

That's true. Playing with the payout in mind destroys the fun. Also, it is frustrating, as you may play well and loose all the same.

For beginners, yes, but if you already play poker for 2-3 years, then this is more like an extra income. And for people who have been playing for more than 10 years, this is their main income.
