It depends on the company you’re playing with—if they’re your buddies, why not talk during the game?

online i trash talk a lot ; it got me in trouble in the CC community games ! when i play live i almost never say anything .

I love talking to opponents just to see what kind of information I can get from them, see what they will voluntarily let me know about their experience or playing style.

I think table talk is great so long as it's respectful. I love it when people start telling jokes back and forth. Poker is supposed to be fun.

As for getting info, I might ask something like, "Did you have the flush?" and sometimes they answer so it's good.

A couple of times I have told my opponent the hand or a hand that I have him on and then raise and watched him fold. The best was when I told a guy that he had 2-pair, then flat called him on the flop. When he checked the turn I bluffed a complete airball and he laid down pretty quick. One of my finest moments, but you have to use that very sparingly or people will catch on that you're full of it when you're always talking hands at the table.

Online, I can’t type fast enough to have a conversation…when playing live, I sometimes engage in non-poker conversations…talk about the best restaurants or interesting travel stories. I don’t trash talk, and I don’t get bothered by other players who do trash talk…inside I laugh at players who try to intimidate me with trash talking…in one tournament, one player who stood approximately 6’5” and looked like he could bench press 500 lbs. tried to intimidate me by making a raise, then standing over me. I called his raise and took the pot…the dealer asked him to sit down and stop the shenanigans.

Unless you're all-in, standing up during the hand is absolutely forbidden. Now he may not have known that but the floor needed to give him a warning.

In this case it was also a stupid idea because it screams, "I'm bluffing the hell out of you!" : P
