I usually prefer to mute the table chat when I’m trying to play seriously. Sometimes the conversation can be funny and it’s nice to have a relaxed atmosphere, but once players start arguing or talking about previous
hands, I find that it can become distracting.
I also think there can be a strategic side to paying attention to chat. The way someone reacts after winning or losing a hand can sometimes tell you something about their personality or emotional state at the table. However, I don’t think it’s worth sacrificing concentration just to look for those small clues.
For me, it really depends on the game and my mindset. If I’m playing casually, I don’t mind the chat at all. But if I’m trying to make good decisions and avoid unnecessary distractions, I’d rather mute it and focus on the cards, positions and betting patterns.
