Joe McKeehen, the 2015 World Series of Poker Main Event champion, added another jewel to his poker crown this week by winning the Seminole Hard Rock Poker Open Championship.
McKeehen added another $462,600 to his stash by taking down the $5,300 championship event at the SHRP series. It’s his eighth-largest cash.
The $3,262,704 prize pool was generated by 673 entries. His lifetime tournament poker cashes now sit at $22.1 million, according to the Hendon Mob database.
Of that, $7,683,346 came by winning the WSOP Main Event. He added two more WSOP bracelets since then.
The top 85 players were paid, and the final table was a tough one that included 2013 WSOP bracelet winner Loni Hui, $3 million man Edward Pak, and two-time WSOP bracelet winner Darren Rabinowitz.
“Down here in Florida, I don’t feel like I’ve ever done as well as I should have,” McKeehen told SHRPO live reporter BJ Nemeth. “It feels like every time I get into the situation, I just can’t. This time around, I was very focused.”
McKeehen was forced to mount a comeback when it got down to nine players as runner-up David Greufe and Hui held most of the chips when the final push began.
But when it got down to the final three, McKeehen ran pure.
“I caught some cards and I won some big pots. It seemed every time the pot got really big, especially three-handed, I had the best hand. That was helpful.”
Once Hui was eliminated in third, Greufe and the 2015 World Champ made a deal, giving McKeehen the guitar-shaped trophy and the largest cash of the tournament.
