Sam Soverel continues to prove he’s one of the best poker competitors of this age by simply winning events.
He did it again at the PokerGo Tour PLO Series’ opening event at the ARIA, a $5,300 affair that attracted 91 entries. Soverel, 36, added $122,850 to more than $33 million in career tournament winnings. The prize pool missed $500,000 by nine entries.
This is Soverel’s 16th PGT title, which extends his record by two ahead of Alex Foxen.
He ended last year with a nice $350,000 score for finishing third in a $100,000 buy-in PGT event at Super High Roller Bowl X. It was won by Joao Simao. Since then, he cashed 13 times — all in PGT events which includes a first, second, and third at the PGT PLO series in the Spring. He won another $5,300 PLO event on the PGT in June.

Don’t bet against Soverel landing his 17th PGT this week, as the PLO series runs until Friday, Oct. 3.
