I've been doing some experimenting, and I've consistently played better poker if I smoke a bit of pot before a live session. Somehow it makes me more perceptive and focused, my reads get a lot better and I seem to be a lot more patient.

Anyone have similar/different experiences?
I know many people who do everything better after smoking weed, from washing dishes to riding a bike 🙂

i do think that too, at the end of the day its just preference thing

I've had the opposite experience. For me, I play my best when I'm completely clear-headed. Even a small amount can slow my decision-making or make me second-guess myself, especially in bigger pots.

Everyone reacts differently, but I'd rather rely on good sleep, a clear mind, and focus than anything else at the table.

To win, all methods are good, you need to use everything that can help, but each person is different and what helps one can worsen the situation of the other.

If drinking Whiskey is counted as a drug? So yes. It's too much fun when it's a family game. On the other hand, not crazy when I play online.

It really comes down to how experienced u are with poker and weed. There are known high stakes players who play while high.

Also depends the setting:

Live or online?
Cash or tournaments?
How many tables?

I wouldn't recommend for example trying to mass multitable while high but i can truly imagine it could help with patience issues while playing 1 live table or a few long online tournaments.

i used to play in my earlyer years under onfluence but now i am clean for a few years better playing when i am clean then had smoke pot

In Thailand, they sometimes play like that, and they say it doesn't help win at all, it just lowers your stamina during the game.

I haven’t played it and I don’t advise others to dive into this abyss of distorted consciousness!

No. For me, the most I can do while playing poker is smoke a cigarette or drink a bottle of beer. That's all.

I don't think it's a good idea if we're playing multiple tables at once.

Sometimes I try to play while not high ... and I can't it's just too boring.

Before when I smoked, every time we played with some friends at home, there were no shortage of cigarettes, I think it's to calm our nerves, to relax.

50 years ago i would do it while or after smoking herb ...... not anymore !

Some players say it helps them relax, while others feel it slows their thinking and decision-making. In a game where focus, discipline, and reading situations matter, even small changes in concentration can make a difference

I tried it a couple of times, and it definitely wasn't for me. I felt slower, missed details, and second-guessed a lot more decisions. Some people say it helps them relax, but I think it hurts my focus and overall win rate, so I'd rather play with a clear head.

I couldn't do it. If I'm playing poker, I want my mind as clear as possible because there are already enough tough decisions to make. Being stoned would probably slow down my thinking and make it harder to stay focused on the action.

There's definitely a sweet spot! A tiny bit can actually help smooth out tilt, slow down impulsive reactions, and force you to sit back and observe player dynamics. The catch is the line between "calm focus" and "losing track of pot odds" is paper-thin—if you cross it, it gets expensive real fast!
