I would continue to play even if there was no money involved but I do think the game would not be as much fun as to many people would not play poker but push allin and or play silly to ruin the game.

If I couldn't make money in poker, I wouldn't play, all the excitement of the game is lost.

I would definitely play tournaments for no money. That would be no different than other amateur sports I've played where all you won was a trophy or a pin.. I enjoy the game and the competition.

Not in the long term, there wouldn't be much point to it.

Yeah no, but its weird, because I dont play poker just for fun, or just for the money, thats the beauty. I wouldnt play the game if either was missing.

No, I wouldn't play poker if it weren't for money. I think poker is the best card game in the world because it has the added bonus that you can win money.

Good question. I think it can be asked of any game that is played for more than just points or bragging rights. I don't think I would play the same, if even at all. Think about it; you play your ass off, make all the right reads, bluffs, and winning flips, and all you get are these cute, little, clay circles w/designs on them. Eventually someone's going to asked to be paid for it.
I think, probably, dominoes are the only game that is played for nothing more than sticking it to your opponent. Maybe shuffleboard? Foosball? Air-hockey? Is there a "World Series of Air Hockey"? "The World Foosball Tour"?

No way. Playing for no money just kills all the vibe and thrills.

If poker were just an online game, the essence of which would be entertainment and there would be no prize pools.
Would you play poker, or would you never come to this card game?

People play all sorts of game's without there being money involved, you only have to look on Facebook to see many poker games are played purely for fun.
Personally it wouldn't bother me that much if the money was taken out of the equation, because it has never been my only motivation.
Sure it is nice to win cash but I used to play on Facebook simply for the challenge, It was only the Covid Pandemic that closed the places where I used to play Poker for cash because of the Lock Downs, that I turned back to On-line Poker, The reason being a Self imposed Challenge to see if I was as good a player as I thought I was, because if I was a good enough player I would not have any problems doubling up my small bankroll of $200 on Pokerstars, I managed to treble it in 6 months. Not enough to live off, but proved to myself that by careful Bankroll Management and slowly levelling up, I could increase my Bankroll.
Everyone thinks they are good Poker players, but in reality not many can accept that losing at Poker is just as important as winning, Why? Because people learn from making mistakes, if you don't make any mistakes how can you learn?
Someone once said "You can learn Poker in 5 minutes, but it takes a lifetime to master" and that is very true!
I still play fun games when I am in the mood, probably more than I do for real money, but as I said "money is not my motivation" and it never was.

You can play poker without money. There are many freerolls where you can win money and have a good time.
