Suspicious algorithm

I've said this many times, beginner players tend to be favored in the first few weeks to get them to deposit, then they start losing everything, this is a classic, especially on GG Poker, in fact, I don't recommend that Casino, it's the most rigged of them all, that site has no shame at all, I recommend Pokerstars/888Poker (Cash and Tournaments) and WPT (Tournaments only).

I can understand the frustration, especially when the same pattern seems to repeat in the final stages. But I'd be careful about assuming the algorithm is targeting certain players without solid evidence. Sometimes variance can create incredibly convincing patterns over a large sample. I'd be more interested in tracking the hands and decisions over time and seeing whether the numbers actually support the feeling.

I understand the frustration, but a year of play is still a small sample, especially in MTTs. Losing key pots late does not prove the algorithm is targeting you. Track your hands, review your decisions, and focus on volume, bankroll management, and long term results.

Do you play $10 battles in each match?
Yes mostly. A few $3 games as well mostly for getting used to the software and experimenting with playing more than 2 tables.

I understand how frustrating that can feel. We've all had periods where it seems like nothing goes our way. However, I don't believe the site is intentionally favoring new players. Variance in poker can last much longer than most people expect, especially in tournaments and all-in situations.
What helped me was reviewing my own hands, managing my bankroll better, and taking short breaks when I felt frustrated. Sometimes bad runs make us notice only the unlucky outcomes. Staying patient and focusing on making good decisions is the only thing we can really control.

I've been playing gg poker for about a year now. I even paid a deposit shortly after my registration, it was incredible, I was second in my first $2 tournament right away, or the jackpot came out after a couple of games on allinor fold. Cash Gamen came to the big box office. It lasted about two weeks, since then it has been a continuous failure always in any game. For example, I don't dare to go in against players with zero kilometers anymore because I know so much that the algorithm supports them. And it is also interesting that in the final stages I lose in pots without exception, no matter what.
Have you ever played live poker?
How do you complain about a bad beat in live poker—is it the algorithm's fault too? If you suspect the algorithm, stop playing poker immediately.

If people win, they dont need to deposit. If you are going to share conspiracy theories, at least create one, that makes sense.

Sound pretty natural to me, that most beginners are losing. After all poker is a zero sum game with rake, and more experienced players will be better than beginners everything else being equal.

What you really mean, is, that you lost more there compared to other sites?

I also still prefer PokerStars over GG Poker, but to be fair GG Poker have some advantages like significantly lower rake for most micro and low stakes tournaments and higher activity. GG Pokers Battle Royal is not a particularly great game, but you never need to wait more than a minute or two for a new game to start, and PokerStars cant match this any more.

GG Poker also have some cool inventions like full ring cash games with an ante, the option to straddle and a max buyin of 200BB instead of the usual 100BB. As for 888 Poker I can not recommend the site at the moment. Everything above microstakes is basically dead, and customer service is terrible. Emails remain unanswered for weeks, and many people are currently facing problems with payouts. Cant play on WPT so no opinion about that site.

I only can say that GG didn't help me when I was a new user and made my first deposit 😅

I feel the same with GG poker, don't know why, the only site I don't really trust.
I don't think there's a single site I don't "trust". I don't win at most of them because I don't take them seriously. That's a result of Freeroll Derangement Syndrome (FDS). Kind of like Trump Derangement Syndrome but for poker.

I love Cardschat, but if I'm being honest, I think I caught FDS here. 🙂

Your thoughts about an algorithm deciding who wins is almost impossible to believe...regardless of the cards or your good or bad luck the so called algorithm cannot know or even guess how all the players will play..will they fold, raise check or bluff. not in the algorithms vocabulary, In reality I have been playing poker of various types since 1960..I have won/lost in live cash games and tournaments as frequent as on line..in live games there is no algorithm. just the players their cards and their chips. so really one experiences the similar variances in all types of poker. Seriously just insert the word variance for your term algorithm...and good luck on the tables.

Greece won the Euro in 2004. Since then, they haven't even qualified for the Euros or the World Cup. They are complaining to UEFA and FIFA, claiming there is some sort of algorithm working against them in football.

First of all, I should mention that I only play freerolls. I play on four poker rooms, and I've noticed that on some of them I seem to have much worse results. I rarely win anything there, even though my skill level is the same everywhere, of course.

So here is my personal ranking, from best to worst. I want to emphasize that this ranking is based only on my own experience—someone else might have a completely different ranking.

I'd also like to know which sites are your favorites and which ones have been the worst for you when it comes to making money.

So, my ranking is:

  1. 888poker
  2. PokerStars (back when they still had freerolls)
  3. CoinPoker
  4. GGPoker

This is known as the "beginner's honeymoon." I often notice such players in tournaments; it seems like they can win every coin flip and go deep in the event. However, this doesn't last long—the long run eventually sets things straight. Without working on your game and developing your skills, poker won't yield any dividends.

When it comes to Google and Facebook, you are right to be suspicious, but on poker sites, I think not. Cards can be wicked on-line and in the real world. Live with it or give up. Too late for me to take that advice!

Sorry, but if you’re calling these boards with nothing but an overpair like AAor KK, it’s probably not some suspicious algorithm that’s making you lose more and more.

AA is obviously a great starting hand, but on this particular board, how many hands that are realistically calling you can actually beat it?
9T and QT for two pair, 99, 44, TT, QQ and 88 for sets, 67 for a straight, and then all the Jx hands like 9J, TJ, QJ, KJ and AJ, plus plenty of suited spade combinations.
Putting your tournament life on the line with just one pair, even if it’s the best possible top or overpair, is, in my opinion, a pretty risky move on a board like this.

I do sometimes feel like online poker sites are rigged too, especially when you see some of the crazy hands that happen. But then go on YouTube and search for crazy poker hands — you’ll see that the exact same madness happens at live poker tables too.

Sometimes you just have to hate the game, not the platform.

When I first signed up I placed 2nd in my very first tournament played... a $1 mtt called 'The Ferguson' on Fulltilt. (I won ~$100, it had ~1,000 entrants).

Since then it's been down... down... Up.. Up... down.... down.. wayyyyy down.... bit up... even.... even... down... even. DOWN!!!!!!!!!!!

Look here, today I think things are turning around for me...
this poor guy must be on his first year... he can't even win after being a 99.9% favorite on the flop. WTF? And somehow I managed to 'not lose' after I was 1,000 to 1 against winning anything in this one.

Dummy may have been spat after seeing you both blocking each other queens only to hit quad 5's 😀

According to the screenshot the action was all-in preflop. So just a standard set-up, where two players have to get it in preflop, and one of them have to lose. One player was lucky to have AA, when someone else had TT, and then the guy with TT got lucky to hit a set. One is not more unfair than the other, and it takes care of itself it in long run.

I feel something similar. I started with a bankroll of $10. I increased the bankroll to $60. Then I saw the bankroll melt away to zero. This lasted 3 weeks. Two going up and one going down.
I see two hypotheses:
1- The algorithm identified and 'marked' me. I prefer not to believe this, but I don't rule out this possibility.
2- The strong winning streak altered my discipline with overconfidence. (in this case it is also difficult to believe because the hands with which I lost were always premium. It's okay to lose with AA 40% of the time. But losing 10 out of 10 is at least strange.
