Consistently turning a profit every month is simply unrealistic—unless you play nothing but freerolls, where the expected return is a few hundred dollars at best. If you play for real money regularly, however, your profit is calculated based on the volume of play (the "distance" covered) or a major big win that represents the peak of your expected return.

Its actually not that unrealistic, if you play low variance formats like cash games, SnGs or small field online MTTs. There will still be variations from month to month, but someone grinding full time dont need to have a losing month very often at all. Of course if you depend on poker to pay your bills, you would still need to have some kind of "life roll" AKA savings to make it less stressfull. Like maybe having enough money in the bank to cover your living expenses for at least a full year. Money which is then NOT part of your poker bankroll.

With that kind of approach, understanding, game strategy, and game selection, it is entirely realistic to consistently show a profit every month. If you add in the freerolls from SS, you can smooth out the variance and achieve excellent results. So, I fully agree with your view. Good luck at the tables.

I dont have any plan to quit my day job, but I get a somewhat regular side income from poker. This is a lot less stressfull, because even if I have a losing or breakeven month, I can still pay my bills and other needs from my salary.

As a beginner, the safest way is to grind freerolls on multiple poker sites. You can also play micro tournaments, but if you're not winning consistently, they'll drain your bankroll, while freerolls can only grow it since there's nothing to lose. So the answer is no, unless you're willing to constantly improve your game.

Yes, but it's much harder than it used to be. You need to be consistently better than the player pool, have solid bankroll management, and treat it like a real job. There are still people making a living from online poker, but it's definitely not easy money, and the variance can be brutal.

I played seriously for a couple of years and found that grinding small stakes just covers extra costs, not a full salary. You can track your progress better if you use a proper tool like toto for bankroll management. It helps me see my real returns without guessing.
