Can you make a living from online poker?

The fact that professional players exist shows that it is possible to make a living from online poker. In my case, there are months when I usually win around $300 or $400, but most of that comes from freeroll tournaments.

Thanks for sharing your experience. It's always nice to meet other online poker players and hear about their journey.

If you don't mind me asking, where do you live? Also, which poker sites do you usually play on, and which ones have been the easiest and most reliable for you when it comes to withdrawing your winnings? As a Brazilian, that's something I'm very interested in learning about.

In everything we do with dedication and focus, I believe it is possible.

Possible? Sure. But I think the fun and excitement must wear off fast when it becomes your day job. I used to have grand delusions of making it as a poker pro, now the only hope I have is that I get to play the wsop main event once in my life.

In Canada nah but then there isn't many that do or can just from poker alone. Poker is good hobby, I enjoy the challenge and it's a decent side hustle for me.

Cheers!!!

There's a guy who is currently doing a bankroll challenge online. $2,500 > to > $10,000 in 10 days! He is doing this while playing online MTT's & using a 100 buyin rule for his maximum allowed entry fee (so with $2,500 he can't play any tournaments above $25 buy-in & because there aren't that many $25's he is playing everything from $5 to $25).
He is currently just completed Day 2 of the challenge.
Day 1 - 104 tournaments
Total buy-ins: $2,190
Cashes: $2,190
Profit/Loss: +$164

Day 2 - 89 tournaments
Buy-ins: $2,155
Cashes: $4,684
Profit/Loss: +$2,529

Current Bankroll: $5,193

Of course he's better than anyone on Cardschat... but what it shows is 'that it is possible'. This 'guy' doesn't normally play at these stakes. He is doing it to show that it is possible for anyone to do if they're willing to put in the work.
He max. late reg's everything that isn't PKO & plays 20-30 tables at a time. At his normal stakes a.b.i. $80-$100, he will be playing 20-24 tables.

I find it difficult to organize tourney lobbys so that you can even get one's games organized, so that you can keep 10-12 tourneys up on your screen. I can't imagine doing this with 30! BUT, he is also repping/promoting a new program (Bankroll Lab) that helps you to organize your MTT selection. It is actually a pretty cool program.

I forgot to mention, he also live streams this. So even while playing 30 mtt's, and keeping games organized (ie. which one's is he regging to next, how many does he need at XX:XX time so that his screens will still be full (without missing some and having them time out and blind down while covered by another table, etc. etc. etc.) he is also answering questions and keeping up with the chat in his stream. I've heard that streaming is quite taxing in itself (ie. Daniel Negreanu talks recently of his experience of streaming his play in the online WSOP series recently on GG, saying he was exhausted after one week... pretty sure he's only got 3 or 4 games going too). Streaming can be a bit distracting and also requires thought (which table am I bringing to focus, etc. etc.).

One can learn a lot from watching a twitch stream depending upon a) which streamer you choose to watch b) how you choose to use that time while watching the stream (I'm guilty of often just having it as background noise as some of them pick good music... and I'll be watching while I'm actually playing... not the most optimal plan of action lol)

fwiw, this is abarone68 The player I was asking folks on here to 'Like' his 888 stream recently.

Of course it's possible. It's also possible to win a lottery.

Yeah I have no idea how them guys can manage all that. Just amazing but I imagine it's easier today with some of the software tools out there. Imagine doing this back when Chris Moorman was doing it when there likely wasn't near the tools there is today. Very very few have the ability.

Cheers!!!

Can you make a living from online poker?

I'm a serious recreational player, that did pretty well in both live and online poker since I've started playing 15+ years ago... I'm someone that looks at poker as a hobby/game and I especially like the grind aspect of it, while working/studying to improve the poker skills... What I can say from my experience is that you can make a good living from poker if you have decent bankroll management (for both poker and IRL stuff), while you're above average in the games you play; also I have quite a few friends that live from poker and even though they say that nowadays it's tougher compared to like for example 10 years ago (especially online- the average player is a lot better), the games are still beatable and because of technology advancement - we have way better PCs (laptops and/or other devices), at relatively good prices that allows players to open more tables at the same time, to increase the volume of play if needed (especially if you have to go down stakes, because of bankroll management and/or the games becoming tougher, and grind your way up again), things that were much harder or expensive in the past...

I think the main issue with this will be the consistency part. If you not loaded I'm not sure how much you would be able to take a downswing let alone to say a long one (remember Mike Matusow?). My opinion its very good hobby and as a side hustle absolutely sufficient, but to be able to maintain a balanced life when your sole income is dependent on a significant percentage of luck is not possible.

I believe that all professional players make their living online. Live is they play sometimes and play only the main tournaments.

I do believe it's possible but I've been stuck for a while continually losing lots of tournaments. I won two low stakes tournaments and since then, I've only lost which puts me at a net loss currently so ionno

Yes, it's possible to make a living from online poker, but it's definitely not easy. You need strong skills, discipline, good bankroll management, and the ability to handle downswings. I think it's better to treat poker as a hobby first and only consider going pro when you can show consistent long-term profit.

Good morning, everyone.

Yes, it is possible to make a living playing poker. In fact, it is even possible to become a millionaire by playing poker. Now, if you ask me whether it is easy, the answer is no. It is very difficult. Looking at the percentage of profitable players, they represent less than 5%, and of those, a much smaller percentage earns more than $100,000 per year. I don't know the exact number, but I believe there are between 100 and 200 online poker players in the world who achieve that level of profit.

I live in Brazil, and I only know two players who have made more than that amount so far this year. One of them is Kelvin, who streams on Twitch and has already made a profit of $340,000 this year alone. Of course, he is an extremely intelligent player, well above average, and also has a great talent for playing poker.

What I can say from my experience playing poker since 2018 is that I earn more playing poker than I did in the other jobs I have had. I am very satisfied playing poker.

So yes, it is possible to make a very good living playing poker.
Thanks for sharing your experience! I agree that making a living from poker takes a lot of skill, patience, and discipline. It’s interesting to hear how different the results can be between players. I think it’s important to understand the risks and stay realistic about the challenges involved.
