Do you play for the money or for fun ?

For love of the game

I absolutely only play poker for fun! However, I only play in real money games as I feel that the character of the game changes when chips have no value. On the other hand, I never do well if I consider the value of the chips. In order for me to stay on my game and have fun, I need to think of them as just chips with no real value, regardless of whether I am playing a freeroll or a tournament with a $500 buy in. As soon as I start thinking about my chips as money, even in a ring game, I shortly have no chips.

I always have fun . I really enjoy PLO8 , scooping a pot is so satisfying . The problem is after playing PLO/PLO8 , NLH is so boring and hard to stay interested in . At the same time , playing these other games improved my NL game . Oh yeah any money made is just gravy.

Poker

I play to win and since I do not play at play money tables I play to win real money. And I expect to win every time I play. Which sometimes make it less fun, because I definitely lose more than I win. I do believe I am improving and hopefully I develop a strategy where I win more and that's when It will be fun,

Relying on poker for my main income means that even when there is no fun I have to put in the hours or start looking for some shitty underpaid job...

For MTT's it takes me a $1,000-to-$2,000 bankroll investment, 100's of hours (probably more like 1,000's in total) of studying, playing 40hrs./wk. (50?) along with another 5hrs. of regular studying each week, all this to earn only 1/2 of minimum wage (in the Long Run... because in the short run I can do ALL of this and actually (easily) lose 2x Min.wage )

But 'what if'? lol

I just play poker for pleasure, I've never made a goal to make money, because I don't think I'm still at the unsesar level, or maybe I can't ignore my job and yet I don't have enormous time to indulge myself one hundred percent of poker. however, if poker wasn't a cash game, you wouldn't have any charm.

I play 100% for the fun, because if it was for the money, I could work one shift a year overtime and make more money than I do in a year o playing poker...... Sounds like I better improve my game or play higher stakes games....
