Luck is important, but not more so than skill; study, and you will be a profitable player.

I think it’s mostly down to luck. Personally, I really enjoy using low cards to beat high ones. Sometimes the cards fall low and play right into my hands—opponents rarely suspect that I’m holding low cards.

The game is about probability, however, after the Artificial Intelligence Revolution, it's the system that decides who's going to win, they tend to favor new players so they feel confident and deposit more, while systematically applying BADs to regular players who make money online, Poker is only alive live.

When it comes to online poker, I think so too. In my opinion, even in the long run, luck will be more important than skill, but only if poker is just math for you.

From my experience playing poker, I've come to believe that luck is a very important factor, regardless of the probabilities. Even when you have the best starting hand or are statistically ahead, there's never a guarantee you'll win. Over time, I've learned that while making the correct decisions consistently is what matters in the long run, variance can completely change the outcome of any individual hand. That's just part of what makes poker such a challenging and interesting game.

Reading this whole thread as a freshman is a bit of a rollercoaster — I'm signing up for my first tournament soon and part of me is comforted by "luck evens out," and part of me is terrified by "variance can ruin your best decisions." I think for now I'm just going to focus on making the most disciplined choice I can at each spot and accept I can't control the cards. Does that mindset hold up once you've actually played a few tournaments, or does the variance mess with your head more than expected early on?

Thinking that knowing how to play poker is just about identifying hand types on the board is like learning to play *Pife* or *Bisca*.
The game is far more complex than it looks; I suggest you study and hone your skills before entering an MTT or SNG.

Short distance (1 game session, for example) - 80% luck + 20% skill
Long distance - 80% skill + 20% luck

I would also like to always be lucky, really you are almost never 100% sure that you are going to win, but that's not why you should leave theory aside, in the long run the theory is more lucrative, or at least that's what many people say

Of course, luck is important. We often describe the lack of luck in poker as "bad beats". Still, I can’t place that much emphasis on luck, since I estimate its importance at no more than 20–25% of success in poker. :)

I don't know but you might have the best hand and still get bluffed off Ur win. It takes some guts and that's some skill. I saw this quote somewhere "bluffing is like a story but make sure you are telling a good one"

Poker is considered a game of skill in the long run, although luck determines short-term results. Unlike games of chance such as roulette or slot machines, a poker player's decisions directly impact the final outcome; for this reason, it is considered a mind sport based on intellectual ability.
